Carying Place Meal – September 24th
Good Shepherd, in partnership with our friends from Cary First Christian Church, will be providing a meal for the program participants and volunteers of the Carying Place on Thursday, September 24th. The Carying Place serves individuals and families who are experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness, assisting them with education and resources to obtain and maintain stable housing.
To assist with this congregational project, we are asking for donations of food, and for 3 volunteers to assist with serving the meal on the 24th. Join us as we listen, sing, move, and reflect on the relationship between music and mental health. You don’t have to be a musician and there will be no forced singing. If you breathe, we invite you to explore in community the power of music in our lives and the many ways it can support our well-being.
Our time will be facilitated by the artist-scholar Lois DeLoatch who has a distinguished body of professional, volunteer, and artistic work that you can read more about HERE. More than that, Lois brings a spirit of wisdom, kindness, and creativity into her teaching and facilitation and you will not want to miss the opportunity to be in her generous and generative presence.
Childcare is available for those who request it on the registration form by Oct 17.
ONE Wake Public Action Saturday 9/19
ONE Wake will hold a public action for affordable housing on Saturday September 19th at 1:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Rd. in Raleigh. This gathering will bring together elected officials from several Wake County municipalities to face a large group of local residents who are negatively impacted by extremely high housing costs in Wake County. ONE Wake is seeking accountability to commitments made by elected officials to support funding for affordable housing.
ONE Wake’s goal is to turn out 1500 people at this public action. As a member institution, Good Shepherd has committed to having at least 25 people show up, and hopefully more can go! All that is asked of you is your time and presence. ONE Wake has a proven track record; when large groups of people show up, our community leaders listen.

Racial Equity Institute Training Saturday 9/26
St. Francis UMC, 2965 Kildaire Farm Rd, will host a training by the Racial Equity Institute on Saturday 9/26 from 9:00-12:00. The workshop is FREE and open to any adult who wants to learn more about the historic, structural, and systemic nature of racism in the US. Muriel Hoequist, Sofi Sands, Justin Ridley, and Pastor Linda have all participated in Racial Equity Institute trainings and are willing to share about their experiences if you have questions.
